Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life (Rei) Energy (Ki). Ki (Chi in China, Prana in India) is the vital life energy which flows through all living things. If one’s life force energy is low, or stuck, then we are more likely to feel stress or become ill, and if it is strong and free flowing we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Universal Ki is channelled through the practitioner’s hands, strengthening the recipient’s ki and activating their body’s ability to heal itself.
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
Reiki’s gentle energy has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and always creates a beneficial effect. Being complementary it works alongside orthodox healthcare and natural remedies.
A session takes place fully clothed, usually lying down, and lasts about one hour.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature and has its roots in ancient Buddhist teachings, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to use and learn Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not.
A Reiki practitioner will have received 'attunements' to open their healing channels. The guidelines for the practice of Reiki are concerned with ethics and behaviour and include living in harmony with others, taking responsibility for one's own health and happiness, helping others, and being positive about all things.
